A Bewitching In Salem, MA

Dance around in a circle naked and howl at the moon. One-Handed Witch is flying to Salem, MA. I’ve booked the Old Town Hall in the center of town. And if we’re looking each other in the eye, I’ll tell you … it wasn’t a walk in the theme park. The witches in Salem play for blood. I had to slip into covens like a cat, pose as a rabid bear, and use small children for bait. Eventually the screeching decrescendoed to a squeak and doors were thrown open like shutters in a cyclone. Now, I’m foaming at the mouth for the big day, August 16-17.

A fiery witch loses her hand to an angry mob, tames wild beasts in the forest, and starts hustling small town folk and casinos out of all their money, with one hand.

Historic Salem, MA is boiling over with witch history, witch hysteria and the smell of burning witch hair. The Salem witch trials occurred in colonial Massachusetts in 1692. More than 200 people were accused of practicing witchcraft, 20 were executed. In 1711, colonial authorities pardoned the accused and paid off their families. But it wasn’t until 2022 that the last convicted Salem witch, whose name had yet to be cleared, was officially exonerated. And now, after the last body has been buried, comes One-Handed Witch.

How does the Hiss pay for dark stage magic? Ticket sales. If you live within a day's journey to Salem, come see One-Handed Witch! Someone at one of my Chicago shows last October came all the way from Detroit (Her partner said they were on vacation, but you can’t fool the Hiss).

One-Handed Witch, the silent film with shadow puppets and live musical score, flies to Salem, August 16-17. Early Bird tickets are on sale now through June 28. Come see the live performance at Old Town Hall in historic Salem, MA.

Salem, she’s coming for you.

See you soon, witchesss.
